BUSINESS OR PLEASURE?

Crickitt Day needs a job . . . any job. After her husband walks out on her, she’s determined to re-build her life and establish a new career. When swoon-worthy billionaire Shane August hires her as his assistant, she jumps at the chance to prove herself. Despite her growing attraction to her boss, she vows to keep things strictly professional. No flirting. No kissing. Definitely no falling in love...

Shane August is all business, all the time. He’s a self-made man who’s poured his heart and soul into his company, and he’d never allow himself to get involved with an employee. Then he hires sweet, sexy Crickitt—and he can’t keep his mind or his hands off her. But no matter how much he wants Crickitt, Shane fears that painful secrets from his past will always come between them. With fate working against them, can these two lonely hearts learn that sometimes mixing business with pleasure is the perfect merger?

I took a last minute trip to Florida this Winter.  Between naps by the pool, dinner on the beach, and arguments with an insane condo association that called my dogs "big & scary" (riiiiiight) while judging me by my 10 year old (and squeaky) car, I read a lot.

See how behind in reviews I am?  I'm talking about something that happened in January.  I should get some kind of reward for even being able to remember where I was last week, let alone what I read in January.

Tempting the Billionaire by Jessica Lemmon was one of the first books on my list.  I curled up on the lounger by the pool, gave the condo association president the finger (no really, why didn't they like me?), whipped out my reader, and promptly fell asleep.

It may just be a coincidence.  Maybe it was the sun.  Or the booze.  Or the energy of defending my dogs, and myself.  Whatever the case, this book was a let down.  I just kept thinking I was reading an ever so slightly different version of Shades, which wasn't impressing me.   Given the onslaught of major marketing for books of this genre, maybe I'm just tired of reading the same story with different characters.

With that being said, I would probably give the author another shot - maybe it was just a coincidence.  Her author bio was hilarious, and the writing itself was great, but I just couldn't .. connect, y'know?   It was like the guy I dated ten years ago that was perfect on paper for me (ambitious, nice, thoughtful, funny, slightly odd), but who actually bored me to tears when we were together.

Shortly after, I met my ex-husband, who didn't realize that if he slept with enough women on the side, one of them was bound to tell someone I knew.  Or me.

Just like my judgement in men, you may not be able to trust my judgement in books.  Especially this one.
